You are welcome to bring your own sewing machine but if you would like to use one of ours, just let us know.

Class sizes vary between 6 – 10 participants depending on the project.

EPPclock.jpg

This two part class will allow you to make something just a little bit different that you didn’t think you could make from fabric. We’ll make a large star design using EPP that’s inspired by mid century starburst clocks then we’ll turn it into a fully functioning clock of your very own. In the first session we’ll give out paper pieces and get started on covering them with fabric and sewing them together. As well as my original design there will be a simplified version available for those with less experience of EPP. On that day we’ll also discuss sourcing of materials for the rest of your clock. In between the two sessions your homework will be to finish sewing together your starburst, hence the month long gap! On the second session we’ll cover turning your finished EPP star into a beautiful wall clock. This is an opportunity to make something unique but also useful that shows off your patchwork in a new way!

This is a great class for those who enjoy hand sewing or anyone who would like to try EPP.

FREE MOTION QUILTING FOR ALL SKILLS (tutor Pat Stone).

Pat will show you how to set up your sewing machine for free motion work, what tension, stitch length, width and needles to use. For the adventurous we will be trying out TWIN needle free motion stitching.

This class is a good way to get started with free motion quilting or to improve your skills. We will begin with small samples and if you wish to, we can free motion a small quilt.

This class is suitable for anyone with basic machine quilting skills.

LOW-SEW HEXAGON CUSHION (tutor Catriona Brown)

10:15 am – 4:00 pm, Saturday 7th April, 2018, £30, excluding materials.

cat'scushion

This full day class will show you how to make a cushion with an interesting and pretty alternative method. We will start by using 10 charm squares to create a lovely hexagon design on a single piece of background fabric using folding and fusing techniques rather than sewing. Then we’ll layer and quilt our cushion front to permanently secure everything. If there’s time on the day we’ll get started on turning our lovely quilted cushion front into a finished cushion cover. This class will show you how to make a lovely cushion with a modern design that’s great for using up scraps or left over charm squares and just a little different from your regular pieced cushion top!

This class is suitable for anyone with basic patchwork and quilting skills.

SPOOLS QUILT (tutor Alison Buckle).

10am – 4pm, Sunday 15th April, 2018. £30, excluding materials.

Spools.jpg

This class uses Edyta Sitar’s nifty technique for making the traditional ‘Spools’ block. You can use Mini Charms (2.5″ squares) to make a cot quilt or a wall hanging, a Charm Pack (5″ squares) to make a large lap quilt or single bed quilt (shown here) or a Layer Cake (10″ squares) to make a much bigger quilt. This is a fun and versatile block to make and in the class we’ll learn the technique and then make as many blocks as possible in the time available. Assembly of the final top and quilting will be done at home. This is a great class for working on technique and accuracy.

This class is suitable for relative beginners and improvers with basic patchwork and quilting skills.

beginners p&q.jpg

This class, which will run over four consecutive Saturday mornings, will teach you the basics of quilt making. We will start with rotary cutting and machine piecing, then progress to quilting, basting and binding. Using a simple technique to make triangles, we will explore different traditional blocks that can be made out of the versatile half square triangle, such as pinwheels and broken dishes. We will have plenty of time to consider fabric choices, tonal value, patterns, etc. We will aim to complete a big block that can be made into a cushion cover or wall hanging.
